Government of India launched IndiaAI mission with outlay of Rs. 10,372 crore for the development of the overall AI ecosystem in the country. With India’s push to democratise Artificial Intelligence and expand compute capacity, along with the rapid growth of data centres and cloud infrastructure, there has been a corresponding increase in demand for high-performance compute resources, including Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Under the IndiaAI Mission, more than 38 thousand GPUs for common compute facility have been onboarded through the AI compute portal, which are being provided to Indian start-ups and academia at an affordable rate. GPUs are highly advanced equipment and are primarily manufactured in one country.

Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY),inaugurated the NIELIT Digital Recording Studio at NIELIT Bhawan, New Delhi today in thepresence of Dr. M. M. Tripathi, Director General, NIELIT.

In line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision to democratize technology and empower citizens, theGovernment of India launched the Digital India programme in July 2015.

Aadhaar is the world’s largest biometric identity system maintained by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) with approximately 134 crore live Aadhaar holders. It has completed more than 17,000 crore authentication transactions.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, organizedthe second edition of the National Additive Manufacturing Symposium (NAMS) on 13 March 2026at Scope Convention Centre, New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders,researchers, start-ups and other stakeholders to deliberate on the growth of the AdditiveManufacturing (AM) ecosystem in India. The symposium served as a national platform fordiscussions on policy directions, technological advancements, market opportunities and ecosystemstrengthening required to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing across key sectors of theIndian economy.

The data centre industry in India is growing steadily. The total data centre capacity in the countryhas increased from about 375 MW in 2020 to around 1500 MW by 2025.

Government of India launched the IndiaAI Mission in March 2024 with the objective of building arobust ecosystem of AI in the country. The Mission seeks to expand access to AI technologies,support innovation and promote the development of AI solutions addressing India-centric challenges.

The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has enabled the availability of advanced AI models, including open-sourced Sarvam models, on the BHASHINI platform, further strengthening India’s capabilities in building and deploying population-scale artificial intelligence systems.

India’s AI strategy is based on Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of democratizing technology. It aims to address India centric challenges, create opportunities and ultimately improve the lives of citizens.

In line with Prime Minister’s vision to democratize technology and empower citizens, the Government of India had launched the Digital India programme in July, 2015.

In line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, the Government is democratising the development and usage of technology. The focus is on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for solving real-world problems and ultimately improving lives across various sectors.
