The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025 was enacted by Parliament in August 2025 as a landmark legislation to safeguard citizens from the growing menace of online money games while creating an enabling framework for e-sports and online social games. The Act reflects the Government’s resolve, articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to position India as a global hub for gaming, innovation and creativity, and at the same time protect society from the financial, psychological and social distress caused by predatory online money gaming platforms.

In a unique achievement for the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), at least 100 entities have successfully onboarded as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) within three months of roll out. This milestone marks a major advancement in enabling secure, consent-based, and paperless verification through Aadhaar offline mechanism — empowering both service providers and people, alike.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, has constituted the Technology and Policy Expert Committee (TPEC), a standing expert advisory body tasked with providing specialised technical, policy and strategic expertise to support the functioning of the recently constituted AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG).

The launch took place on Friday, 24th April 2026. This is a major milestone in Silicon Photonics technology sovereignty for India and will serve as a shared national facility for the Indian photonics R&D community.

In a significant step towards strengthening minority language preservation through AI-led innovation, the BHASHINI Sanchalan/Seva Workshop on Gurmukhi Language Preservation and Digital AI Model Development was conducted on 17 April 2026 at SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi. The workshop was organised by the Digital India BHASHINI Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in collaboration with SGTB Khalsa College.
