Ruangphur is a dedicated bereavement support initiative managed by the Directorate of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Government of Mizoram. Brief Background
In Mizoram, community solidarity and collective support during times of loss have always been deeply rooted in tradition. However, with increasing urbanization, changing family structures, and logistical challenges—especially in hilly and remote areas—transporting deceased individuals from hospitals or other places of death to their homes or burial sites has become increasingly difficult and costly for many families.
Recognizing the emotional and financial strain faced by bereaved families, the Directorate of Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Government of Mizoram, conceptualized Ruangphur as a structured and compassionate support system. The initiative was established to ensure that every family, regardless of economic status or geographic location, can access organized, dignified, and affordable transportation services during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.
Ruangphur reflects the Government’s commitment to social welfare, cultural sensitivity, and community care—ensuring that final rites can be conducted with respect, dignity, and minimal hardship.
Objective
The primary objective of Ruangphur is to provide organized, dignified, and affordable transportation services for deceased individuals across Mizoram, ensuring timely transfer from the place of death to the residence or burial site. The initiative aims to reduce the emotional, logistical, and financial burden faced by grieving families, particularly those from economically weaker sections and remote areas. It also seeks to institutionalize a transparent and reliable system under government oversight, ensuring equitable access, standardized service quality, and compassionate support during times of bereavement.
