The district is named after its headquarters, Bhiwani city. Bhiwani city, it is believed, was founded by a Rajpoot named Neem Singh after his wife Bhani. The name Bhani later changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani created on 22 December 1972, the centre of regional politics and hometown of three former Haryana chief ministers: Bansi Lal, Banarsi Das Gupta and Hukum Singh. People used to call it Chota Kashi becasue we can find temple of every second or third lane cornor.

East longitude. It lies approximately 124 km west of India s capital New Delhi and 295 km from Haryana s capital Chandigarh .
