The Art and Cultural Affairs Department has been established for the promotion and development of performing Art, Visual art, Plastic art all crafts of the state. This Department has been organizing workshops/camps on various art forms of the State such as dance, drama, paintings, photography, graphics, sculpture, music etc. and folk festivals on various occasions such as Teej, Haryana Day, Geeta Jayanti etc. Department also organizes classical and folk music dance, drama and other variety programmes from time to time and makes concerted efforts to arrange cultural shows on national festivals. It also arranges cultural programmes of International cultural troupes in collaboration with the Indian Councial for Cultural Relations and Festival of India. Zonal Cultural Centres were established by the Government of India in November, 1986 and Haryana State is the member of two Zonal Cultural Centres, i.e. North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala and North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Allahabad. Inter-State Cultural Exchange is a regular activity of the Department through which it has been able to weave millions of people from all walks of life in India into a fabric of oneness, kinship and brotherhood. Scholarships are given to the students of Haryana domicile getting training in various Institutions of art and culture. Annual State Level Award to the eminent artists also given every year on the occasion of Haryana Day.

Brief Background
Established to foster the development of performing arts visual arts and crafts the department organizes workshops camps and festivals such as Teej Haryana Day and Gita Mahotsav. It also collaborates with national and international cultural bodies to facilitate cultural exchanges and showcases.
Objective
Preserve and promote traditional cultural forms including folklore literature and indigenous crafts. Create awareness about cultural expressions at the school level by establishing cultural centers and developing modern infrastructure. Support libraries to foster reading habits and appreciation of art and culture among the public.
