Brief Background
The Directorate of Panchayats is the nodal agency overseeing the administration and functioning of the 191 Village Panchayats across Goa. Headquartered in Panaji the Directorate operates through sub-offices in each Taluka managed by Block Development Officers (BDOs) ensuring effective supervision and support to the Village Panchaya
Objective
The primary objectives of the Directorate include: Empowering Village Panchayats to function as units of self-governance enabling them to plan and implement development programs. Facilitating decentralized planning through the preparation and execution of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs). Enhancing transparency and accountability in Panchayat administration by promoting e-governance and citizen participation. Capacity building of Panchayat members and staff through training and skill development programs.
