Brief Background

Initially set up as an Archaeology Museum unit of the Department of Archives in 1973 the Goa State Museum opened to the public in 1977. Over the years it has amassed a collection of over 8 000 artifacts including stone sculptures wooden objects carvings bronzes paintings manuscripts rare coins and anthropological items. The museum was previously housed in the EDC Complex in Patto Panaji but has since been relocated to the historic Adil Shah s Palace (Old Secretariat) in Panaji.
