Project Details

Brief Background

Originally known as the Department of Civil Supplies and Price Control it was renamed in 2002 to reflect its expanded role in consumer affairs. The department has been instrumental in implementing the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) to ensure food security for the targeted population. It also facilitates the functioning of consumer redressal forums established in 1989 and the Goa State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission established in 1991

Objective

Ensure Food Security: Implement the TPDS effectively to provide essential commodities to eligible households.
Regulate Essential Commodities: Monitor and control the distribution and pricing of essential commodities to prevent hoarding and black marketing.
Protect Consumer Rights: Establish and maintain consumer forums and committees for grievance redressal.
Promote Transparency: Ensure transparency and accountability in the operations of the PDS and related services.
