Brief Background
Arunachal Pradesh was originally a Union Territory and became a full-fledged state on 20th February 1987. The first Legislative Assembly was constituted in 1978 with 30 members when it was still a Union Territory. After statehood the number of seats increased to 60 and the Assembly gained full legislative powers as provided under the Indian Constitution. The Assembly is located in Itanagar the state capital.
