The Department of Public Relations is the nodal agency of the Chandigarh Administration to disseminate information to the print and electronic media on administration policies, programme initiatives and achievements. Functioning as an interface between the Government and the public through media, the Department also provides feedback to the Administration as reflected in the media.

Project Details

Brief Background

The Department serves as the communication bridge between the government and the public ensuring transparency and promoting cultural heritage. Press Conferences, Workshops and Seminars of Administration are also arranged and covered by this Department. The Department also covers all the visits of National and International dignitaries. 

Objective

Public Relations basically means persuasive communication to develop goodwill, understanding, cooperation and feed back, so therefore it is a two way communication. Feed back is critical so as to structure further communication and enlighten the masses. The day to day functioning of the Department includes the coverage of the main functions of the Administration, issue of press notes, features, articles and messages for the newspapers and electronic media. Press Clippings are sent to the Administrator, Adviser to the Administrator, Home Secretary, Finance Secretary and other concerned officers of the Administration. The Department also accredits the Correspondents, Photographers and Veteran Journalists.

The Department aims to serve the people by effectively communicating administration programs, welfare measures, developmental activities, through print and electronic media. The department’s main intent is working in a responsible and vigilant way , and recognize the problem faced by the residents and constructively work on them.

Implementation Methodology

Branch deals with matters relating to establishment matters such as appointments, promotions, probation, confirmation, reversions, postings and transfers, retirement, premature retirement, disciplinary cases, suspensions, dismissals, removal or compulsory retirement, seniority, level matters, property returns, ACRs, complaints of all Officials/Employees/Trainees,etc
