There are over more than 100 cultural group's consisting of amateur and matured artists who have given great fillip to the cultural life of Chandigarh. The Department of Cultural Affairs boots them by sponsoring their performances from time to time. Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration supports various cultural activities in the Union Territory of Chandigarh by organizing various cultural events / programmes from time to time.

Brief Background
Chandigarh Sahitya Akademi and Tagore Theatre Society, for carrying out its various cultural activities hroughout the year. It is a matter of pride for Chandigarh Administration for having the state-of-the–art acclaimed Tagore Theatre, which is a cultural happening place in the city and witnessed the performances of many renowned national and international theatre artists.
Objective
For the promotion of art and culture at the grass root level, Department has engaged Resource Persons who are imparting training in instrumental music and classical dance to the students of government schools of Union Territory, Chandigarh. The main objective of these classes is to motivate and encourage the students to learn classical music and dance and also to peruse career in the field of Classical Arts.
Benefits
There are over a 100 local cultural groups in Chandigarh, the majority of them consisting of amateur artistes, who have given a great fillip to the cultural life of Chandigarh. In order to encourage them, the department of Cultural Affairs sponsors their event and provides financial assistance for promotion art and culture.
