The National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) was approved by the Government in May 2006, with the following vision:
“Make all Government Services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services at affordable costs to realise the basic needs of the common man”.
Government is implementing the Digital India programme as an umbrella programme to prepare India for a knowledge based transformation into a digitally empowered Society and knowledge economy. Digital India aims to provide the much needed thrust to the nine pillars of growth areas, namely.
- Broadband Highways.
- Universal Access to Mobile Connectivity.
- Public Internet Access Programme.
- e-Governance Reforming Government through Technology.
- Electronic Delivery of Services.
- Information for All.
- Electronics Manufacturing.
- IT for Jobs and Early Harvest Programmes.
Further, with a vision to transform e-Governance for transforming Governance and keeping in view the need to utilize emerging technologies such as Cloud and Mobile Platform and focus on integration of services, the Government has also proposed to implement “e-Kranti : National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) 2.0” under the Digital India programme.
NeGD plays a pivotal role in assisting Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology in discharging its key roles under all the above noted initiatives.
