Digital India Launch Week
To inform, educate and engage citizens across the country on the Digital India Programme, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India launched the Digital India Week on 1st July 2015 at a mega function organised at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, which was attended by 15000+people; an interesting gathering of Union Council of Ministers, State Ministers, Ambassadors, Industry Captains, young CEOs, IT Professionals and other dignitaries. During this week, Digital India, a flagship programme of the GoI was also launched by Shro Narendra Modi which aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Objective of the Digital India week was to inform and create awarenees amongst everybody about the different avenues and mediums of Digital presence, such as Common Service Centres (CSCs), Post Offices, Schools, Gram Panchayats, etc; connect citizens through digital campaigns and social media; and popularize the concept and potential of e-Services. This was followed by State and Union Territory level events most of which were graced by Hon'ble Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors. Subsequently, events were conducted at District, sub district and other levels too.
Digital India Week events and activities were conducted across all 36 States/ UTs across India. The Digital India week was marked with launches of products and services like Digital Locker, National Scholarships Portal, e Hospital, e Sign; Portals/ Apps like DI Portal and Mobile App, MyGov Mobile App, Swachh Bharat Mission App; enrolment and registration drives for citizen-centric e-initiatives, pledge by industry captains in respect of Rs. 4.5 lakh crore investments; inauguration of institutions like National Centre for Flexible Electronics, Centre of Excellence in IoT; publication of books like Digital India books, Policy Document on EDF, Policy document on e Governance policy initiatives under Digital India; contest and competitions, mass and social media campaigns and outdoor sports celebrating an active, alive and vibrant Digital India. Simultaneous telecast of the event was organised in Post Offices, CSCs, Software Technology Parks of India Centres, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology Centres, BSNL Centres, Gram Panchayats, Defence units and missions abroad. People from all walks of life including elected representatives, officials, students, industry captains, citizens, etc, actively participated in various events and activities held during the week. Significant highlights of the Digital India launch were #DI touching 1 billion on social media handles and more than 9.28 lakh students participated in the Digital India online wellness quiz.
The Digital India Week has been a structured and collective effort of the whole government at all levels which was coordinated by the Department of Electronics & Information Technology. The department assigned the task of conceptualizing and coordinating the multifaceted multilevel series of events across the country during the week to the National e Governance Division. NegD reached out to various ministries and other government agencies, held continuous interaction with state governments and industry, that resulted in participation of over 60 lakh stakeholders across the country in events at more than 1 lakh locations.
